Cortico, a nonprofit technology organization, is looking for a VP of Engineering to guide the development of our conversation listening platform and a new kind of social dialogue network. Both products are designed to connect rather than divide us to create a healthier society. We are looking for someone with experience leading highly productive teams and a track record of technical contributions. The role is best suited for someone who is passionate about building software that acts as a complement to pro-social human interaction and constructive communication.
As VP of engineering at Cortico, you will be leading two teams:
In addition, you will lead efforts to integrate our bespoke listening hardware into the Cortico product ecosystem in collaboration with external hardware design and manufacturing partners.
Based on a unique cooperation agreement with MIT, Cortico works in collaboration with the MIT Center for Constructive Communication (CCC) to translate basic research into prototype tools and field pilots. MIT CCC houses researchers and experts in areas ranging from natural language processing and machine learning to civic design and political science. Collaboration that spans research to deployment uniquely positions Cortico to push the frontier of new systems that bring people and technology together for stronger democracy.

Cortico was created in 2017 out of a desire to transform our polarized and toxic national discourse into a thriving public sphere. The need is even more urgent and clear today. Rising toxic polarization and political intolerance, combined with plummeting social trust, are tearing us apart. The daunting array of challenges we face as a society – from the pandemic to the climate crisis to economic and social justice – is more urgent than ever. Yet we struggle to come together in the face of divisive social media and conflict entrepreneurs. These times demand new ideas for listening and learning across divides, for conflict resolution, and for constructive action. We design scalable technology-powered systems that are shaped by the wisdom of ancient prosocial practices of dialogue, deep listening, facilitation, mediation, and community organizing.
Cortico’s product and engineering team is kind, collaborative, curious, and inclusive. We have high standards for quality and ethics, and help each other learn in order to reach our objectives. We think technology is best built by teams with a diversity of background, thought, and experience. Every team member is a human first, and we strive to create a culture and environment that supports your career goals and respects all of the hats you wear in life, not just the ones that earn you a paycheck.
Cortico maintains a strong policy of equal opportunity in employment. It is our objective to recruit, hire, and retain the most qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation or identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic or status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. Our equal employment philosophy applies to all aspects of employment, including recruitment, compensation, benefits, training, promotions, transfers, job benefits, and terminations.
