Introduction: As the world moves toward a greener economy, the perspectives of those in traditional energy sectors are fundamental for shaping equitable policies. Deloitte’s Local Climate Voices Project, in collaboration with Cortico, ensures these underheard voices are captured and integrated into the broader climate agenda.
The Challenge: Understanding Impact As economies shift away from fossil fuels, the effects ripple through communities tied to the old energy paradigms. To better understand the impact of this shift on peoples’ lives, Deloitte’s research—conducted using Cortico’s tools and methods—delves deep into the heart of regions and places intertwined with the fossil fuel industry across four states: Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Innovative Approach: From Conversations to Insights Using Cortico’s tech-enhanced approach to conversations and listening, Deloitte captured and analyzed over 800 unique perspectives through 33 community discussions. Cortico’s sensemaking process highlighted the diverse concerns and hopes of individuals, distilling critical insights into eight overarching themes. The result paints a comprehensive picture of the transition’s local impact.
Looking Ahead: A Blueprint for Change The insights gleaned from these conversations provide a robust foundation for crafting strategies that are both sensitive to local realities and ambitious in fostering sustainable growth. By prioritizing deep listening over assumption, Deloitte and Cortico are helping to redefine how businesses and governments envision and implement climate strategies that enrich lives, not just economies.
As this project progresses, it aims to create a scalable model that other regions and sectors can adopt, ensuring that every community has a voice in the global narrative of climate transition.
