Rhode Island Foundation partnered with Cortico on two statewide listening efforts—first to gather community recommendations on ARPA stimulus spending, and later to collect and synthesize public input on the proposed Lifespan–Care New England hospital merger for policymakers.
Listen in to Katie, who shares her thoughts on how to improve trust in healthcare systems on a local level.
Drawing on focus groups, expert input, and community conversations supported by Cortico, this report summarizes what Rhode Islanders want from the proposed Integrated Academic Health System.
The Rhode Island Foundation (RIF) first partnered with Cortico on the Make it Happen project: an initiative to develop recommendations to policy leaders for spending $1 billion in stimulus funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Through the collaboration, RIF led a community engagement project gathering input and recommendations from local communities most affected by COVID-19.
RIF renewed its partnership with Cortico for a second community engagement project, collecting input and feedback on a proposed merger of the Lifespan and Care New England hospital systems. Leveraging Cortico’s approach and technology, RIF conducted and analyzed targeted, small group conversations to deepen the community input process surrounding the merger.
From these conversations, Cortico and RIF delivered a report to a committee of policy makers which centered and amplified community members’ voices on 8 major topic areas including health equity, access, cost, and quality of care. One of the most exciting things about building this program has been the spirit of experimentation we’ve all had. Branch staff have embraced figuring out what their intended audience is for this program and getting to know their community in the process.
